Marathon Training Update!

It’s been a while since I spread my running milage news across facebook!! And if you haven’t checked the fundraising page for updates then it may have looked like training had slowed down – but it’s pretty much the opposite of that!

After pushing myself on my 14 mile run around 5 weeks ago my knees totally gave out – and not being very brave I don’t like pain one little bit!!! That being my first clue I started seeing a chiropractor, pediatrist and went for a gait analysis where they put sensors on your legs and assess what’s really going on. That whole time I had to cut way down on my weekly milage, at the start not being able to get past 2 miles without my knees hurting. I’m now upto 6/7 miles after endless stretching and building muscle where my body has escaped doing so. All of that is so much more time consuming than when I used to just go for my runs!

Finding the gait results the beginning of this week was disappointing to say the least. Due to my biomechanics the doctor advised not to run the marathon…this year. I’m on my 22nd week of training – she said I may need a year to train without further injuring my knees :( That being said I’m still registered! And have signed up for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon this Sunday! 6 weeks ago 13 miles would have been my average long Sunday run – and now will be a huge challenge!!

I’m really hoping the marathon isn’t off the cards, I will have to judge how sunday goes.

All donations for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon will still go towards the American Cancer Society! It really is an incredible charity so if you haven’t already please do donate, however big or small.

The link to my fundraising page is below. Thank you so much to all the people who have already donated!! It makes the training, pain, recovery everything worth it!
