Salvatore’s Wedding Chicago

Finally, we’ve made it home! And this time I have a husband in hand :) Somehow we actually made it on the same flight back – as I’m flying standby this year I’m thinking that may be the only time that happens. We had an such amazing time in Siesta Key (more pics to come!)

The day before I left, I had the pleasure of shooting with the wonderful Emilia Jane! I don’t think Jen stopped smiling the entire day, it was so contagious! A simply gorgeous wedding full to the brim with so much love :) Enjoy!

Thank you to the amazing Emilia Jane for having me along to second shoot for the day!! :)

There was an expanse of reasons why it was impractical, uneconomical and totally unorganized to fly down to Florida and meet Billy while he was travelling for work…but then yesterday happens. And all the small worries, the day to day inconveniences get thrown straight back into perspective. My heart goes out to all those affected by Boston, it’s truly horrific. There are literally no words – I am just sick to my stomach.

But for right now, there’s nowhere else in this world I would rather be – hug your loved one a little tighter tonight and don’t take any day for granted x

Lisa + David: Engaged

They really do grow families this cute :) When I met Lisa and David about 8 months ago – Lisa had one of those adorable pregnancy bumps. You know the ones that are perfectly round and somehow still petite?! She was planning a wedding and getting ready for their first baby  – talk about having a lot on your plate! So when we were able to get together for their engagement shoot (weather permitting – third time’s a charm right!) I was so excited to meet the little mystery man! Asher made his way into our engagement shoot, because now Lisa and David aren’t just fiance, they are a family. He was perfect – seriously didn’t even make a peep the entire time!! I’m not exactly an expert on 4 month old babies but I do know he’s a rare find and am so so happy for Lisa and David!

I am beyond excited for their wedding next month and to see Asher in his adorable pageboy suit :) my heart will melt.

For now, enjoy this beautiful families engagement session x

Hand Made: Ombre Yarn Lampshade

Talk about Pinterest gone wrong! Or maybe I’m just a perfectionist….yes, that sounds more like it! I’ve had this yarn for a while, I was initally going to use it on a different lampshade, but one bottle of white spray paint later and that one ended up in the rubbish :)

I’ve always loves the ombre look but I never died my hair or painted my nails ombre, so thought what the hec – why not decorate in ombre ;)

What you’ll need:

  • 3 colors of yarn.
  • hot glue gun (I love these!)
  • Ideally a shade with a circumference that is all even – not like the one pictured as the yarn will tend to ‘bunch’

2013-04-03_024This is what the lampshade looked like originally:

  • Start at the bottom – I would suggest to pencil measurements around the base so you don’t end up with uneven spacing (something I didn’t do!)
  • Only place the hot glue in one place all the way down the shade, this way you wont end up with ‘tugging’ leaving you with gaps between the yarn and the shade

  • When you are finished with your first color wrap it gently around the shade a few times and pick the same spot where you are using the glu gun to start with the second color.

So I thought I was done. But no. I didn’t like how bunched up it was! You can see where the layers of yarn almost overlap. I didn’t pull it tight enough and also used too much hotglue so the yarn was being stretched in different directions…So I pulled it all off and started from scratch.

Tip: Pull the yarn taught and it would be much much easier on an even circumference lampshade!

Final Product:
2013-04-03_029This isn’t perfect but it’s definitely much better and a lot more fun than the boring shade we had before!

Today is a day for running errands – I’m a little scared to look at my to-do list :) That being said I am so SO excited for the gorgeous Lisa and David’s engagement session tomorrow!!! :) :) Eeeps! Can’t wait to share already!

Happy happy Friday to you all xx

Fluffy Company

4.15am this morning came the ever-so-familiar call from the taxi waiting outside. One last big hug and he walks out the door with his huge tennis bags thrown over his shoulder. And who jumps up onto the bed, flips over onto her back so her four huge paws fall over my body :) Kaya knows this routine by now and doesn’t need to be told to come keep me company anymore. It might sound silly but I’m not sure what I would do on these long weeks the hubs travels, she’s my big loving ball of fur :)

And this last week we had two of these loving fur balls to keep us company! Billy and I had Kaya’s best friend Maddie to stay while his parents soaked in the Florida sunshine. Literally – they are best friends. I just need to mention her name and Kaya’s ears perk up…pulling round to his parent’s house and she starts squealing! We might have had a call from the police on her last night here. They had complaints from the neighbors that a dog that was barking non-stop…..oops! Mad’s was just warning the squirrels to stay away :) But look at those big brown eyes…how could you ever get mad at that?!

So this week it’s me and my pup and I’m thinking this spring weather calls for our beach days to come back! Plus i’m missing Mad’s so if anyone wants a puppy play date, Kaya and me are in :)

Wedding Art Book: Kelly + Sean

First of all – how is it Friday already?? It totally snuck up this week! But how amazing is this weather? Kaya and I were able to go on a little run this morning :) It brought home how terribly unfit I have become over my lazy winter! Kaya kept looking up at me as if to say “hurry up Mum, I’m bored!”. Time to address this issue and get back outside with the pup and thankfully this 50degree weather makes it much easier!

Now, time to finally post some images of Kelly and Seans art book! I get so SO excited to knock on the door and hand it over, but at the same time a little sad. It’s never the end of the road but once they receive the book, gone are our emails on a regular basis and excitement about it arriving. I almost don’t want it to end – it’s safe to say these books hold a piece of my heart.

I’m so happy they loved their book :) It is such a timeless piece that will last forever as the perfect memory of their special day …2013-03-29_001

Now it’s time to check off some things on my everlasting todo list :) And have also given into Billy and will go car shopping with him – this must give me huge wife points! Wish me luck!

Happy Friday xx

Home : London

I find myself talking about ‘home’ in different contexts. Whenever I am in Chicago that is my home, where my husband is, my puppy, my career. Then as soon as I touch ground in England every part of that is home. From the green fields with sheep grazing, the cobbled streets and pedestrianized towns, sensible motorway driving and of course my family and friends :)  Initially I had this idea that you had to have one home  – so I was supposed to swap it from London to Chicago. But how silly is that?! Anyone who has moved continents – or even states or towns – will realise that you can have two homes. Two places that hold your heart.

Here is one of my places and a little glimpse into my short but ever so sweet trip home…

A day out in London with my sister Becca :) – I love my beautiful niece Bella to bits! But we hadn’t spent a whole day with just us two sisters in over 3 years so this was beyond special. We roamed around the city untill we got to Skylon Bar where she treated me to an amazing wine-filled lunch :)

We then decided to be cultural and go somewhere we could only go by ourselves. The Light Show  at the Hayward Gallery was like no other art show I’ve been to!! There were some pieces that were seriously mesmerizing, others that left you completely confused, some were simply beautiful and a couple that we found ourselves giggling at :) (yes we were the two girls in the corner laughing at the lightbulb hanging from the ceiling!)

2013-03-23_008And you just can’t leave a trip to England without a takeout Indian!!!
2013-03-23_009Even though my trip was short notice, I was able to spend almost my entire weekend with some of the most special girls :) Meet Poppy – the new addition to Nic’s household … soooo cute!!!2013-03-23_0372013-03-23_0212013-03-23_0362013-03-23_038

Here is (some of) my crazy family :) … (our waiter did a good job right?!)

How I was lucky enough to have Sunday lunch with the entire U of I group I’m not sure, but it was amazing :)

Days spent driving around the village my mum grew up in, getting lunch with my Mum and sister…

There are so many people not pictured who went out of their way to see me! Perfect dinners, amazing pub lunches. It’s so exciting to see all the changes in my friends from promotions to buying their first houses :) I can’t wait to go home the next time, see the people I missed and catch up with everyone else :) Love you all!! xx
